PANJIM: A group of yet unknown hackers whose IP address was traced to Kolkata broke Herald’s YouTube channel account on early Tuesday at 3.44 am, and changed the channel to ‘Ethereum’, blocking off all access to the channel. The hackers streamed a live video for nearly four hours about financial suggestions and trading. (Ethereum is a technology that’s home to digital money, global payments, and applications).

Herald has reason to believe that the genesis of this hacking lies in an attempt to curtail and adversely impact the channel’s fast-growing popularity and reach due to its breaking news, live programmers, discussions and debates, and above all, the infusion of hard ground reportage into Goa’s TV journalism.  The way the hacking happened and the extent to which the hackers went to seize it completely was shocking and yet not unexpected.

The hackers changed the registered email id, password, and the authentication and registered mobile number, which made it difficult to recover the account.

But with the smart and prompt action by the IT team of Herald, the team managed to recover the account in about 12 hours of non-stop work and re-change the settings and privacy.

Herald is moving the State’s cybercrime cell with all information and data gathered including the email id and the phone number registered in the name of “Tapan Rajmistry” and the IP address of the PC used to carry out this dastardly cybercrime.
