Man accused of nephew's murder remanded in seven days custody

Accused Krishna Naik allegedly murdered his nephew Avinash Naik on Monday over house repair dispute

PONDA: Police Tuesday arrested uncle, Krishna Sadashiv Naik (67) resident of St Cruz Ponda who is accused in the murder of his nephew Avinash Dhanajay Naik (42) by using deadly weapons. Ponda Police produced the accused in JMFC court and he has been remanded to seven days police custody. Police also recovered three stones and one iron pipe used for committing the murder. 

On Monday, Krishna Sadashiv Naik, who is the maternal uncle assaulted his nephew Avinash Dhanajay Naik (42) after a heated discussion over house repair. According to Ponda Police, the victim`s head was found smashed with two to three stones, in the house itself.

It is learnt that victim was residing with accused at St Cruz Ponda. The incident took place between 11.45 pm on Apirl 28 to 1am of April 29. Ponda Police received call at around 3.30 pm informing about incident.

According to South Goa SP Sunita Sawant since the past two years the accused was asking the nephew who was staying in the same house to repair the dilapidated house and every time the nephew would promise to repair the house. In recent rain, a portion of the kitchen collapsed and as usual the accused insisted that the nephew repair the kitchen.

Following this on Sunday 28 April morning nephew left the house early morning with the promise to bring roof sheets and labourers for repair work. However the nephew who is working as a delivery boy and who was addicted to  liquor returned home at around 11.45 pm. There was a heated discussion between  the uncle and nephew over house repair issue. In a fit of rage the nephew pushed his uncle. The aunt intervened to settle the issue however she was also pushed by the victim. However, early morning the nephew was found dead with smashed with two to three stones. 

The victim’s sister Amita Shailesh Naik resident of Savoi-Verem filed a complaint with the Police. Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar told O Heraldo that Ponda Police had registered an offence under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and arrested the accused.
