PANJIM: An accident on the Patto-Ribandar causeway claimed another life on Thursday.

According to Old Goa Police, two-wheeler rider Krishna Naik (55) was on his way home to Ponda when he allegedly lost control and banged into an oncoming bus resulting in his death. “The biker lost control when he reached near the hump. The bike crashed into the oncoming bus on its right side. Naik died on the spot,” police said.

The accident led to a huge traffic jam which was cleared by the traffic police later.

In the last week of June, a 21-year-old pillion rider Rohan Parab met a watery grave in River Mandovi after he was thrown off the scooter in a head-on collision with a car along Ribandar causeway.

In the wake of a number of accidents along this stretch, the Traffic Police said they were mulling making it a one-way road or proposing its widening.

“If we start enforcing traffic laws at Ribandar (causeway) and begin penalising the violators, it will block the flow of traffic. Since it is a narrow road, it is challenging. We have thus requested the Director General of Police to convert it into one-way or propose widening or fix lane dividers,” Traffic SP Devesh Kumar Mahla had told Herald in an interview last month.
