Team Herald

MAPUSA: A massive mango tree came crashing down near the Mamlatdar's office, at Mapusa on Thursday evening, causing extensive damage to parked vehicles in the vicinity. Ten vehicles were damaged.

The huge tree, estimated to be several decades old, suddenly collapsed around 4 pm, landing on a car and 3 two-wheelers that were parked nearby. Eyewitnesses reported that around 10 vehicles were damaged in the incident, including one four-wheeler and three two-wheelers.

"It was a frightening sight. The tree just came down with a huge thud, crushing the vehicles beneath it. Thankfully, there were no casualties as the area is usually crowded with people, but at that time no one was under the tree," a resident said.

Upon receiving the emergency call, the Mapusa Fire department personnel rushed to the spot. Using heavy machinery, the firefighters cut the fallen tree and extricated the damaged vehicles trapped underneath.

"Our team responded promptly and worked tirelessly to clear the area and prevent any further damage or injury. It was a challenging operation, but we managed to complete it within a short time," Station Fire Officer Ashok Parab stated.
