MAPUSA: The Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Mapusa is learnt to have  given five days to St Xavier’s College, Mapusa to decide the date for induction ceremony of the students council even as there is no official confirmation about it. 

After attending the joint meeting convened by SDM Yashaswini B, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) General Secretary Sahil Mahajan said that the SDM, Mapusa has asked St Xavier’s College administration to carry out the installation of student council by February 4. He said that the SDM has asked the administration to take a decision in the matter by January 28. 

Four members of the college students council, principal and administrator of St Xavier’s College and Mapusa police attended the joint meeting in a bid to resolve the issue which aroused after the ABVP activists held a protest in college campus over non installation of the students council on Saturday.

On the other hand, Mahajan said that their only demand was immediate induction of the elected students council in a democratic manner and issuing of formal letters to the students council. 

The SDM has given five days time to college management to decide the date and time of the induction ceremony i.e any one of the day between January 30 and February 4. 

“Our request has been looked into and we have got assurance from the SDM. We are satisfied with it,” Mahajan said.

As per Goa University, the induction ceremony is supposed to the held within 10 days, however, it has been delayed for almost 27 days, Mahajan said claiming that they are not affiliated to any political party.

The elected representatives of students council said that they are not affiliated to any political party. 

Meanwhile, there is no official confirmation of the statement made by ABVP General Secretary Sahil Mahajan. 

The SDM said that she has no authority to address the media while the police officials present for the meeting said that their duty was only to maintain the law and order. It is learnt that the SDM also told both the parties to maintain law and order.
