MAPUSA: The blast that occurred on early morning of Sunday in a Mapusa resto-bar was triggered by gas leakage, the joint investigation conducted by Mapusa police and the local fire station has found.

The investigation was headed by SDPO Jivba Dalvi and Basco Ferrao in charge of Mapusa fire station along with an official from HP gas services.

During the investigation, it was learnt that the cause of fire was due to accumulation of gas caused by leakage from the broken gas pipe.

Dalvi said that the investigators suspected three possibilities. One was leakage of LPG, leakage of gas from refrigerator and air conditioner.

Mapusa fire station in charge Bosco Ferrao said, “We examined the regulators, pipe and found that gas pipe and the regulator were of inferior quality as it did not have ISI mark, while the restaurant was using a domestic cylinder for commercial purpose.”

Dalvi said said that perhaps the accumulated gas touched electric wires or a lighted lamp and triggered the blast. The facility was a closed enclave, with no ventilation.
