Mapusa civic body workers to go on strike from Oct 10

The Employees Association informed that despite raising the demands, the Mapusa municipality has failed to fulfil them and hence, a strike notice has been served.

MAPUSA: The Goa Municipal Employees Association (GMEA) has served a notice to the Chief Officer and Chairperson of the Mapusa Municipal Council informing that the employees would go on strike from October 10, in protest against failure to fulfil the charter of demands of the employees by the municipality.

The notice has been served under Sub-Section (1) of Section 22 of the Industrial Disputes Act 1947 to the council over its failure to resolve grievances of the employees. 

Sources informed that in June, a charter of demands was submitted to the council by the employees’ association.

The demands include provision of a hearse van for the benefit of employees or family members, office for municipal union, payment of wages of daily workers by 10th of every month, regularisation of services of daily workers, who have worked for several years.

The Employees Association informed that despite raising the demands, the Mapusa municipality has failed to fulfil them and hence, a strike notice has been served.

The copy of the notice has been also submitted to the Director of Municipal Administration, Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister, Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Chief Secretary and Urban Development Secretary.
