MAPUSA: With the onset of monsoon accompanied by gusty winds, the Mapusa fire personnel were on their toes responding to four emergency calls, on Wednesday.

The emergencies were relating to fire in a house, falling of trees on houses and electrical power lines. However, there were no injuries reported in these incidents.

There was a minor fire in a house at Karaswaddo, Mapusa and the loss was reported at Rs 50,000. A TV and AC caught fire due to short circuit after which the fire personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

In another incident, a huge Peepal tree crashed on a non-functional Government Primary School at Camurlim due to heavy rains and winds. The Fire Department is yet to estimate the loss as they were unable to clear the huge tree as there was a need for an expert tree cutter to carry out the work.

There were two more incidents of coconut trees falling on power lines.
