MARGAO The Margao Civic Alliance that was formed in 2015 between Fatorda Forward and Model Margao to contest the Margao Municipal Council elections are being repeated this year.

The three joint promoters of the alliance Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, former deputy chief minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco declared that their alliance will successfully prevent the BJP from gaining control over Margao

The three MLAs jointly addressed the media today and explained that this was an agreement between them as MLAs who represent different wards of Margao Municipal Council.

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that Salcete has always led every movement or agitation to save Goa and said the municipal elections will be the beginning of the movement for ouster of the anti-Goa and anti-Goan BJP from Goa.

Digambar Kamat pointed out the various sins of omission and commission committed by the BJP government in Goa which he said had converted Goa into a state of agitation where people are constantly taking to the streets either demanding something or protesting against some government decision.

“The public hearing on CZMP was actually a private hearing as there were more people outside than in the auditorium and the present fines are so high that very shortly people will start abandoning their vehicles instead of paying the fine,” he said.

He also pointed out that in an unprecedented move a minister sought to postpone a question during the recently held assembly session even though the written reply to that question was submitted.

“The people of Goa want a united battle against the BJP and that is what we are trying to do in Margao while at other places too like in Vasco and Mapusa similar attempts are on,” he said while clarifying that the respective party leaders will decide about alliance at the assembly elections.

He said the people of Margao are happy that they three are united in the fight against the BJP and said they will definitely support their panel which will repeat what had happened five years ago and said  people’s unrest can be seen in what happened at Curchorem and Canacona when the chairpersons of the municipal councils were elected.

He cautioned government officials against following illegal verbal instructions given by the ministers and asked them to do what is right and only if the instructions are given in writing.
