PANJIM: In a major setback to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has ordered to keep in abeyance around 64 various works, including the pre-monsoon works worth Rs 2.5 crores, for failing to obtain council resolution for the same.

The direction has been issued based on an inquiry, which was conducted following a complaint filed by Margao citizens, led by the former chairperson Savio Coutinho, who demanded immediate cancellation of the tender process.

The DMA Assistant Account officer was directed to conduct the inquiry into the charges.

In a communication to Margao Chief Officer (CO), DMA Dr Tariq Thomas said that since the council resolution is not there for the works and non-duplication certificate has also not been furnished, it is directed to keep the said works in abeyance.

The CO is also directed to submit explanation as to how the estimated amount is same for all the works.

Assistant Administrative Officer of DMA and Assistant Project Engineer of the Goa State Urban Development Agency have been directed to carry out site inspection to ascertain whether any of the 64 works to be taken up already exist.
