The Gandhi Market has turned into a hub of all problems in the town be it indiscipline in parking of two and four-wheelers, spitting of paan, lack of fire safety for the traders and garbage menace.

For the last many years, the Gandhi Market roof has been leaking and no one has paid any heed to this problem. The market is a centre for all vegetable and fruit trade. The undisciplined parking in the market has caused congestion to such an extent that even a small vehicle cannot pass through. To add to its woes, the market has been turned into a urinal as visitors answer nature’s call in the open and at the places of their choice with the authorities turning a blind eye.

A cloth merchant told that the MMC has remained a mute spectator to encroachments by outside traders which has affected his business to a great extent.

RTI activist Sriram Raiturkar said, “The drainage in and around the market is very bad which during monsoon results in water logging. At times, the sewage water flows along the road. The parking lot too is encroached by traders.”
