2 fatal accidents and a prostitution case were registered in October

Margao Town Police station has witnessed a significant drop in the crime cases since the commissioning of the Fatorda Police Station on September 30, 2017 as in October two fatal accidents and a prostitution case were registered.

In October, the other cases registered at Margao Town police station include a robbery, 2 thefts, a person injured in a fight, molestation and matka gambling. While no murder cases registered at Margao Town Police Station in October, between August and September a murder case was registered and later detected. In August a case of attempt to murder was also registered at the station. Though a case of molestation was registered in October, there was no rape case reported or registered although in September 2 rape cases were registered. Incidentally, in September too, a molestation case was registered at Margao Town Police Station. Similarly, though a vehicle theft case was registered in October, there were four such cases registered in August and three in September. While no housebreaking cases were registered at Margao in October, in August, three housebreaking house breaking cases were registered. Margao police registered a theft case in August and October while two such cases were registered in September.

There were no cheating cases registered in October though one each got registered in August and September. And while a lone case of a person getting hurt was registered in October, there were three such cases registered in August and four in September. Though in October not a single accident case was registered at Margao while four and three such cases were registered in August and September. In October, Margao police booked a lone case of matka gambling while six such cases were booked in August and September.  According to Police Inspector Chetan Patil, who has just been transferred from Margao Police Station, the drop in crime figures was due to intensified police patrolling. “We have a smaller area to concentrate on hence our patrolling was more vigilant thus inhibiting criminals from doing anything illegal”. Margao Town Police Station has a lone police inspector, seven police sub inspectors, five assistant sub inspectors, 10 head constables, one lady head constable, 90 police constables and nine lady constables is woefully short of constables as 54 of these personnel are on guard duty. Those on guard duty include 20 police constables working as court orderlies, 10 attached to the Collector’s office and residence, 8 constables deputed to guard ballot boxes at the old Collectorate building and four appointed to the judge colony.
