PANJIM: Maria George Fernandes was elected Sarpanch, while SagarBandekar was elected Deputy Sarpanch of Taleigao Village Panchayat, at a special meeting of the panchayat on Monday.
Maria's nomination was proposed by outgoing sarpanch and panchayat member Janu Rosario, while it was seconded by Estella D'Souza.
Former sarpanch Agnelo Da Cunha proposed and Sanjana Diukar seconded the nomination of Bandekar for the Deputy Sarpanch’s post.
Sandesh Naik from Tiswadi Block Development Office (BDO) was the presiding officer and Taleigao panchayat secretary Gaurish Pednekar assisted him during the election.
The elections to the Taleigao Panchayat were held on April 28. Revenue Minister and Panjim MLA Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate's panel called Taleigao Progressive Development Front swept the elections by securing all the 11 seats, including four who were declared elected unopposed.
