PANJIM: Two minor accidents on the Kala Academy to Bal Bhavan stretch of Dayanand Bandodkar road led to a massive traffic congestion, Thursday evening. The accidents which involved three four-wheelers and a self-accident, occurred at separate locations on the road.
The first accident, involved three four-wheelers which was reported during the rush hours, wherein all three vehicles hit each other from the rear and resulted in damage to all the three vehicles. The heavy traffic on the road was logjammed leading to crawling of traffic along the road.
The second accident, occured just a few meters away from the Bandodkar grounds, Campal. This time, a single four-wheeler was involved in a self-accident. The vehicle had reportedly lost control and collided with the side railings, causing minor injuries to the driver. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it has once again raised concerns about the safety of this stretch of road.
The Kala Academy to Bal Bhavan stretch is a busy road, connecting Dona Paula to Panjim and the hindrance on the stretch lead to heavy traffic congestion. With the rise in the number of vehicles even stoppage of traffic at the Bal Bhavan junction by traffic police leads to congestion.
Authorities need to evolve measures to solve the traffic congestion issue, since the log jam occurs on a regular basis due to closure of the St Inez-Tonca road.
