...Migrants will not get chance in State industries if Goan youth make an effort to upgrade their skills

PONDA: Chief Minister Dr Parmod Sawant on Friday said with initiatives of the State government there are lot of job opportunities for Goans. No Goan youth will remain unemployed if the youth including ITI going students upgrade their traditional skills with education, diploma in advance courses/technology.

“Migrants will not get any chance in State industries if the youth make an effort to upgrade their skills,” the Chief Minister said during a function at ITI Farmagudi, organised in coordination with Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Shri Shri Rural Development Programme on occasion of birthday of Art of Living founder Shri Shri Ravi Shankar.

The Chief Minister said, “The government had tied up with industries to provide jobs to local Goans. However, Goan youth need to upgrade their traditional skills.”

Sawant said, “When the consumers call for repairs of their home appliances right from the plumbers, electricians, TV mechanics, electricians, washing machine mechanics etc they are mostly migrants and charge fees to the tune of Rs 500 to Rs 1000, which is even higher than the doctors fees. This is because the Goan youth are mostly after government jobs or not serious about to upgrade their skills. The very purpose of ITI is that the youth should become self-reliant even if they didn’t get government or private jobs. The   government is providing subsidy of Rs 10 lakh for start-up and not IIT but even ITI students can start their own business.”

He urged the students to upgrade their skills so that they can explore and get job opportunities in Goan industries.
