Minister inspects Tillari, Dhamna dams to ascertain their safety

BICHOLIM: Water Resource Department Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues on Tuesday inspected Tillari and Dhamna dams in Maharashtra and raised several issues related to dam. 

The minister first visited Tillari dam and then to Dhamne dam which has developed leak. The visit was planned after the recent floods and the losses suffered by Sal villagers after water was released from Tillari dam. 

During the visit, the minister came across several problems at the Tillari dam. The minister was informed that there was no proper office at the Tillari dam and no security guard is posted there. There is no electricity facility; the dam also lacks on security front. Besides, there are several issues at the dam. All these issues were raised by local panch Mahesh Londhe and Shiv Sena office bearer Gopal Gawas. 

The minister inquired about the amount of water released from Tillari dam and the issue of leakage at Dhamne dam also came up for discussion. The minister also questioned the authorities as to why this leakage is not being taken seriously. He ordered that the Dhamne dam be immediately repaired. 

As per the report, there was a landslide at Sasoli Bhatwadi which has blocked water from going through right side canal towards Pernem in Goa. The minister told that the chief engineer of both the States would have to discuss over the Tillari issues.
