BICHOLIM: Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo on Wednesday warned that the government would not keep quiet if people oppose good projects.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the shelter for stray cattle at Gomantak Gosevak Mahasangh, Shikeri Mayem, Lobo said, “What good is happening should happen for the good of Goa. We need to change the mentality of the people who oppose projects without any reason.”

He warned that the government would not keep quiet if some people oppose development projects without reason. “We have formed the government, we have added numbers for stability. We will not keep quiet if development projects are opposed. Let them cry foul we will still not stop,” Lobo said.

He added, “If Goa has to be showcased at the international level, then whatever projects we need should be brought in the State.” He gave the example of the IIT project, which he said was opposed by some and was later shifted to Sattari.

Meanwhile, about 56 stray animals from Calangute were handed over to the sangh. Lobo announced that he would provide Rs 50,000 a month to the sangh to take care of the cattle. “Stray cattle is a problem created by the people, the other problem is that of stray dogs. These two are big problems and we are happy that one village is solving the problem of another village,” Lobo said.

Narendra Tari of Gomantak Gosevak Mahasangh spoke of several problems faced by them and the financial constraints.
