PORVORIM: Public Works Department (PWD) Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar has assured the House of a thorough inquiry in the tanker mafia scam in Ponda.

He said that an inquiry would be initiated to look into the reports of tankers who are unloading the treated water in the drains in Ponda taluka. This action was exposed by a news channel in the past.

Leader of Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavalekar has raised the issue in the House during zero hour that the tankers filled with the treated water from Opa plant are emptying water in the drains instead of supplying it to needy people in the state.

He said the tanker mafias are carrying out these activities not only in Ponda but also all over state and this needs to be investigated. Kavalekar said the tanker operators are also paid by the government for their service to provide the treated water to the people but it is been wasted in such manner.

There should be some mechanism in place in the state to monitor the tankers hired by the PWD to provide water.

The minister assured that the inquiry report will be placed in the house on coming Monday. He said that it is a very serious issue.
