PorvoriM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday warned to take action against all those aided schools, which are indulging in charging fees from the parents for the conduct of online classes for their children.

Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte had brought to the notice of the House that several schools have charged and are still charging fees from parents for online classes and that the academic fees have also been hiked.

Admitting the same, the Chief Minister said that he has learnt that several aided schools have charged fees for conduct of online classes. “But no parent or student is coming forward to file a complaint. It becomes difficult for us to have random checks,” he said, while appealing to parents and students to come forward against such schools.

“We will cancel the permission of the schools that charges parents for online classes,” he said, adding that the Government is providing required financial support to the aided schools for conducting online classes.

“We pay the salaries of the teachers, non-teaching staff etc. We take care of the educational system. How can the school charge fees for online classes,” Sawant told the House.

The Chief Minister also informed the State Legislative Assembly that following requests from several parents, the government has withdrawn the permission given to unaided schools for fee hike, before pandemic.

“We have decided not to grant permissions to unaided schools to hike fees for the current academic year. We have also asked schools to ensure that the fees levied in the last term, should be the same, this year too,” Sawant said.
