More arrests likely in land grabbing cases: CM Sawant

SIT will look into all aspects of fraud, says DGP

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that more arrests are likely to take place in the land grabbing cases reported in the State. 

Speaking to reporters at the party office, here, Sawant said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is conducting investigation on a fast track basis and appealed to the people to lodge their complaints in regard to land grabbing to the SIT or to the police stations. He said that the preliminary probe will be conducted and the SIT will act. 

The Chief Minister said that the government will not allow anybody to grab properties of people by fraudulent means.

Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh said that all the land related cases having element of fraud will be transferred to the newly constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe land grabbing cases. 

According to Singh, many more land grabbing cases can be transferred to SIT in future. He further said that the SIT besides investigating these cases will also recommend to the government amendments in laws, rules or procedures to prevent such frauds happening in the State.
