Mormugao municipality removes encroachments

VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council led by Chairperson along with the Vasco police carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the vegetable market and confiscated goods fruits and vegetables kept on the roads

Mormugao Chairperson Leo Rodrigues said that the confiscated goods will not be returned to the vendors but offered to orphanage and old-age homes situated in the municipal areas. He said that the municipality had warned the vendors several times and issued notices to them but in vain. He said that the Mormugao Municipal Council had also received complaints from citizens that they were facing difficulty to walk in the market due to encroachments done by the vendors besides causing obstruction to traffic. 

The anti-encroachment drive was carried out with the help of police force. 

Rodrigues said that the anti-encroachment drive will continue in future so as to stop the encroachments in the vegetable market and ensure that the citizens are not inconvenienced and get smooth passage. To a question, the Chairperson said that the confiscated goods will not be returned to vendors and it will offered to orphanages and old-age homes situated in the municipal areas.
