Murder accused acquitted for lack of evidence

PONDA: The North Goa Sessions Court on Wednesday acquitted Atish Naik, who is presently in custody, for alleged murder of his wife Tanuja Naik on July 2, 2017 at Varadwada-Bandora, Ponda. Additional Judge Cholu Gawas ordered the release of Atish for lack of evidence and on a bond of Rs 20,000.  

The murder case had rocked the entire Ponda taluka, where police had arrested Atish for alleged murder of his wife Tanuja. However, the State failed to produce enough evidence to substantiate their claims. The case was investigated by then DySP Sunita Sawant along with PI Sudesh Naik.  

Adv Amey Prabhudessai along with his team Adv Atish Gaonkar, Adv Madhav Cuncoliekar, Adv Shramik Angley and Adv Nikhil Kankapurkar defended accused Atish Naik. Overall 37 statements were recorded in this case.

Atish Naik will be released on Thursday after depositing Rs 20,000.
