CORLIM: Grief-stricken Anil Achari, father of Prof Gauri who was allegedly murdered by  the former Indian junior Cricket team’s strength coach Gaurav Bidre on Saturday demanded that the accused should get life imprisonment or the maximum possible punishment.

When Team Herald visited Gauri’s flat situated at Primrose Park, Corlim, her father said, “My daughter Dr. Gauri was very focused and career-oriented person. She never used to mix much with anyone and had very few friends. Home to the office (college) and office to home was her daily routine. She never used to interfere in anybody’s matters neither she had any habit of clubbing etc. My daughter was very studious.”

Prof Gauri was born and brought up in Mumbai and also completed her graduation there. She was very popular for her research work in Microbiology. She completed her post-graduation (MSc in Microbiology) and Doctoral studies at the Goa University;

“My daughter was a brilliant student, a caring daughter, and our support system. We lost a diamond,” said the inconsolable father, weeping bitterly.

“After Gauri’s graduation, we shifted to Goa wherein she did her further education in Goa while my younger daughter Dr. Shubhada Achari went abroad for MBBS course in 2006. I used to travel to many places for my business and Gauri used to sometimes stay alone or with her mother,” said Anil, an engineer by profession..

“Dr. Gauri had received a scholarship for research studies, and she was to fly to Australia to carry out her further research work on nanoparticles. My daughter was a scholar throughout her entire educational career, she never scored below 85 percent marks,” Anil said.

In an emotionally choked voice, Gauri’s younger sister Shubhada said, “She (Gauri) was my inspiration. She always guided me, she took care of me to date. She always supported me with my studies and corrected me whenever I went wrong.”

Both, Gauri’s father and sister had returned from Mumbai on Friday and confronted this life-changing tragedy

Gauri’s mother Bharati is  struggling to come to terms with her daughter’s untimely death and was too much in shock to speak

When contacted, Gauri’s neighbour, Pujari said, “Gauri was always busy in her own work and hardly used to speak to anyone.”

Another neighbour K Fernandes living on the first floor of the building said. “Gauri used to go to college in the morning and return home late evening. She was very polite with everyone and always used to be busy with her work and research studies.”

According to the owner, of Arti general stores near her home, said “Gauri hardly used to come to the shop to purchase groceries and most of the time her mother used to visit the shop. “She (Gauri’s mother) always used to lament saying Gauri is the elder daughter of our family and is turning almost 40 now but is not getting ready to marry”, the shopkeeper said expressing his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.

 In the light of this, her supposed relationship with  the alleged killer Gaurav Bidre which went sour is an angle that needs to be studied deeply.
