PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday has decided to field a panel for the upcoming municipal elections in the 11 municipal councils and the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP). NCP Goa observer Narendra Verma on Friday said while the party does not intend to have its fielded representatives in all the wards; it is howevers open for allies with “likeminded” parties.

“NCP has taken a decision that we will contest the civic polls. We have also appointed local party observers to visit each ward across 11 municipalities and City Corporation and identify winnable candidates,” he said at a press conference on the concluding day of his four day visit to the State.

Verma was in Goa to plan strategy for the civic polls as he also met the lone NCP MLA Churchill Alemao, NCP leaders and office bearers. The party observer claimed he visited four constituencies and also interviewed aspiring candidates for the polls.

“If likeminded parties want to ally with us, we are ready. If no party wants to join us, we will still go head contesting the polls. We might not field candidates across all the wards because our focus will be winnable candidates who are hard working in lines with the principals of the party,” Verma said.

Taking a dig at the BJP-led government in the Centre and Goa, he alleged. “They (BJP) don’t respective constitution. It has been coming up with wrong policies due to which its old allies have cut off ties with the BJP. Hike in fuel prices and LPG, adamant to not repeal the farm laws, are among so many instances wherein BJP has put the people to inconvenience.”
