PANJIM: The team of Pernem Police, which is on the hunt for Aakanksh Gupta in connection to the death of his wife Nidhi Gupta (28), returned empty handed from Delhi, as the accused has now moved for anticipatory bail application before district court.
When contacted, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Pernem Jivba Dalvi said that the Aakanksh was not traceable when a team of cops reached at the residence to take him into custody.
The hearing on the anticipatory bail application is scheduled on August 12.
However, it learned from the sources of Goa Medical College & Hospital (GMC) that Pernem Police have further sought the clarification over the exact cause of death of Nidhi Gupta, who died in a mysterious circumstance in a resort at Arambol.
It may be recalled that the father of Nidhi Gupta had suspected foul play following the death of his daughter and filed a complaint before Pernem Police 27 months back on May 10, 2022.
In his fresh complaint last week, Sushil Kumar Gupta father of Nidhi, had said that the postmortem report highlighted injuries on Nidhi’s mouth and nose, suggesting possible smothering.
“The final medical opinion issued by the doctor at GMC in July 2024 supported these suspicions,” he said.
The father has alleged that Nidhi was smothered to death by her husband, Aakanksh Gupta, and unknown accomplices. He has requested immediate and strict action from the authorities to ensure justice is served.
It may be also recalled that, on July 24, 2024, the Pernem Police registered Nidhi Gupta’s death as a murder against her husband, Aakansh Gupta, following High Court directions after 27 months. Herald has been continuously following up on the case since 2022.
According to Deputy Collector of Pernem, Shivprasad Naik, the final report, which indicates the exact cause of death, was received by his office on July 8, 2024.
Nidhi Gupta, a 28-year-old married woman from Haryana, died under mysterious circumstances at Arambol in April 2022. Shortly after their marriage, she complained that her in-laws were torturing her for bringing insufficient dowry, a situation that continued for eight to nine months, according to the petitioner.
On April 24, 2022, the couple arrived in Goa to celebrate their first wedding anniversary along with two friends of Aakansh, who accompanied them on the same flight. They stayed together until April 26. On April 27, the couple moved to a hotel in Arambol, and on the intervening night of April 28-29, Nidhi died under suspicious and unnatural circumstances.
