NO ALCOHOL IN FR BISMARQUE’S VISCERA SAMPLE

Out goes concocted Old Goa police theory of beloved Father being drunk, as he went swimming on his night of death; Crime Branch now relying on lie-detector test, DNA profiling and diatom test to take probe to other angles

PANJIM: The concocted imaginary tales of Father Bismarque Dias downing upwards of ten bottles of beer and diving into the waters of the Mandovi, and drowning, have suffered a credibility blow. The viscera samples of Goa’s warrior priest Father Bismaque, made public by the Crime Branch on Friday stated that no pesticides, drugs, alcohol, poisons, metals were detected in the samples.
Crime Branch Superintendent of Police, Karthik Kashyap said that consumption of liquor by Father Bismarque is completely ruled out following the viscera report.
The report, signed by the head of the department of CFSL Hyderabad Dr L Sridhar was received by Crime Branch that is investigating Fr Bismarque’s death.
Old Goa Police that had initially investigated and registered the case as an unnatural death, had given the cause of death as drowning due to the consumption of liquor. Following allegations over Old Goa Police for bias and demands for an impartial investigation, the government had handed over the case to Crime Branch.
SP Karthik Kashyap said that the most crucial test will now be the lie-detector test of the prime witnesses which will be conducted soon. “If we confirm that the prime witnesses are telling lies, then the investigation may divert into other angles,” Kashyap said.
The JMFC Panjim has given its consent to conduct a lie-detector test on one of the prime witness, whereas the application for permission for the test on the other witness, a minor, is pending before the juvenile court and will be decided on Monday.
“We have four options where to conduct the lie detector test. We will see where we will get priority and accordingly we will confirm the venue of the test. The questions for the test are being framed at this moment,” SP Kashyap said.
He also said that the Diatom test report is awaited. The Diatom test examines the presence of diatom in crime scene water samples and in the deceased. The test will clear doubts whether Bismarque died at the spot where he was found.
The Crime Branch is also relying on the DNA profiling of samples to match with the blood stains found on the vest which was recovered from the site of incident to take the case forward. SP Kashyap said that the DNA report is likely to come soon.
