PANJIM: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa Unit has written to the Central government seeking its intervention to revoke the ensuing Goa Board exams in the wake of rising cases of COVID-19 in the State.

The Congress students’ wing has launched a movement against holding of the exams and sought support from all the political leaders cutting across the political lines, NGOs, parents and others.

“The decision of having exams of SSC students from May 21, 2020 during a pandemic after the recent information of 15 COVID-19 cases within a span of four days has been widely criticised by the students and people of Goa. After requesting the Chief Minister for an urgent appointment and requesting him with the help of media to postpone exams there has been ‘no positive’ response from your kind authority and we are forced to launch a State-wide movement ‘Exams Postpone Karo Na’, an initiative to save Goa from coronavirus,” the letter by NSUI State President Ahraz Mulla reads.

On Saturday, the NSUI threatened to launch hunger strike from Monday if its demand, in the interest of the students, is not met.

In its letter addressed to the President, Prime Minister, Union Education Minister, Goa Governor amongst others; NSUI Goa reiterated the request to withdraw the decision of Class X and Class XII Board exams scheduled from this week.
