COLLEM: Two persons suffered minor injuries after a Karnataka car fell into the pit while the work of construction of a mini bridge at Kasawali-Mollem was underway.

As per the Collem police, the incident took place during the wee hours on Sunday when 7 tourists from Chitradurga, Karnataka were returning back home after vacationing in Goa. Police have said that apart from the two occupants who suffered minor injuries, others escaped safely.

The work of building a Sakav bridge has been undertaken at Kasauli as water saturates during monsoon at the descent. One half of Sakav has been completed while the work on the main road is ongoing. The vehicles are diverted from one side where the work is finished; however, there is a curve on the descent. Locals have stated that the contractor has not taken precautions to ensure the safety of the motorists. The work is being carried out by National Highways Authority and locals have expressed a relief over the work finally being done, but have also called for better safety of the motorists.

Head constable of Collem police station's Shivdas Mavlinkar conducted the panchnama and further investigation are on under the guidance of PI Sagun Sawant.
