Navelim man lands in SIT net for forging, grabbing 10 properties in Dramapur

PANJIM: In a latest development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of land grabbing has arrested a Navelim resident for allegedly forging and grabbing 10 properties in Dramapur village.

The case was transferred to SIT from the local police. This is the first arrest of a person in land grabbing involving property in South Goa.

Accused Mahadev Chavan from Dongrim, Navelim, was arrested by SIT officials and an offence was registered at the Fatorda Police station under Sections 465, 468, 471, 420, read with 34 of the IPC on the basis of a complaint by Prataprao Gaunkar, Salcete Mamlatdar.

The complaint stated that from January 2018 to May 2020, different accused persons created forged title documents of 10 different properties and used the same as genuine to get their names included in Form I & XIV of the said properties. The investigation also revealed that the mutation files of the said properties were found missing.

The SIT has informed that the above arrested accused person has forged the title documents of property bearing Survey No. 191/4 of Dramapur village in Salcete thereby cheating the legal heirs of the occupants.

During the course of investigation, a certified copy of deed of sale that was relied upon by the above accused person was obtained from the Office of Sub Registrar Salcete and it was found that the same is registered in some other person’s name and that too of some other survey number in Cuncolim village.
