'New Zuari bridge by Dec next year'

PANJIM: With 50 per cent of the work accomplished, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Deepak Pauskar on Monday said that the under-construction eight-lane bridge over River Zuari will be completed by December 2020. 

Speaking to media persons, Pauskar said that 70 per cent of the approach road works towards Bambolim and Verna, have been also completed. “Our aim is to ensure that the new Zuari bridge is completed by December 2020. The work is going on at fast-pace and we are confident of achieving the target,” the Minister said. 

The Zuari bridge, the third-longest cable-stayed bridge, is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1,400 crore, funded by the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways. It was to be completed by December 2019.

Pauskar also said that the government has released Rs 300 crore to the department for various pending and ongoing works. “The funds would be utilised to take up developmental works in all 40-constituencies,” he said. 

Speaking about the potholes, the Minister said that all potholes from roads have been cleared.
