PORVORIM: The under-construction eight-lane cable-stayed bridge over River Zuari will be named after former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, announced Deputy Chief Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar.

Speaking on the condolence motion on Parrikar on the floor of the House, Dhavalikar also said that two big portraits of Parrikar would be displayed at ends of the new bridge.

He recalled that Parrikar, along with him as PWD Minister, had held total 24 rounds of meetings with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to clear the bridge project.

Speaking to media persons post the Assembly session, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government will approach Gadkari recommending that the bridge be named after Parrikar as a tribute to the legendary politician.  “The portraits would be of 20-52 meters height. It is going to be our tribute to the leader, who has worked throughout his life for the development of the State,” Dhavalikar said.
