Spiritual meet for youth

PANJIM: Pilar Fathers will organise ‘Youth Alive’, a spiritual programme for youth, at Pilar Animation Centre on August 10 from 10 am to 4.30 pm. It includes Praise and Worship, interactive sessions, testimonies, adoration and Holy Eucharist. Lunch will be provided and no fees will be charged. Youth programmes are conducted at Pilar on every second Sunday of the month.

Mala Lions BoD installed

PANJIM: The 34th installation the BoD of Lions Club of Mala Fontainhas, Panjim for the year 2014-15 was held at Miramar Residency hall, Panjim. Past District Governor Domnic Rodrigues installed the BoD in the presence of Chief Guest Agnelo A J Fernandes (regional passport officer), Region Chairman Gaurish Karapurkar and Zone Chairman Viswasrao Nagvekar. Mrs Ezilda Sapeco former Women’s Commission chairperson was installed as the new president along with Vipin Makwana as Secretary and Jovito Lopes as treasurer. On the occasion senior Lions Nandakumar Acharya, Vinaykumar Usgaonkar (former minister), Suhas Nirlicar and Suvarna Verlecar were presented International Pins for being members of the Club for more than 15 years. 

Motivational talk held at Kings School

MARGAO: Author and poet Dinesh Patel delivered a motivational talk for the teachers and staff of Kings School, St Jose de Areal and Child Care School, Margao at Kings School auditorium, recently. Over a hundred teachers and support staff attended the talk. The topic for the nearly three hour talk, with audio-visual assistance was ‘Inspire Yourself – Consistency Key to Success.’ The Founder of King School Mrs Annette Pereira, chairman, Melvyn Pereira and Director Mrs Ligia Pereira were present for the talk.

Blood donation held at Utorda

PANJIM: United club of Utorda in association with Goa Medical College Bambolim and Royal Orchids Resorts, Utorda conducted a blood donation camp at Utorda, recently. Nearly 70 villagers from Utorda donated blood including the staff of Royal Orchids Resorts.



Francis Morais, Emy Pereira, Anthony Rodrigues, Liberata Fernandes, Ana Pacheco, Anthony Pereira and Rosy Pereira were volunteers and coordinated with the blood donors. Dr Sanjay Gurgaokar stressed the need for Blood donation and explained the health benefits to the donors. 

Legal awareness camp held at Farmagudi

PANJIM: The Ponda taluka legal services committee had organized an ‘Awareness camp in relation to Cyber Law and anti-ragging laws’ and ‘Awareness camp on Environmental Protection Act’ at PES College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, Ponda, recently. Para Legal Volunteer Shirley Dias (social worker) welcomed the gathering and explained the aim of holding the said camp. Adv Aruna Sanadi spoke on ‘Cyber laws and Anti-ragging laws’ and Adv Surel Tilve spoke on ‘Environmental Protection Act’. Kiran Y Gaude coordinated the camp.


Pvt bus owners meeting

PANJIM: The general body meeting of members of the Goa State Private Bus Owners Association is fixed on August 10, at 4 pm at Gomantak Sait Sevak Mandal, Menezes Braganza Hall, Panjim. The government has announced 50 per cent subsidy on insurance premium, subsidy for replacement of buses, subsidy of Rs 3 per km for daily coverage as per the permit, advertise boards on buses. Members are asked to remain present with a photo copy of the RC book, permit and time-table to avail subsidy of Rs 3 per km.

Bandodkar death anniversary 

PANJIM: The death anniversary of D B Bandodkar, the first chief minister of Goa, will be observed on August 12. On the occasion, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and cabinet ministers will place garlands/flowers on the samadhi of Bandodkar and pay their homage at Miramar at 8.30 am followed by garlanding of the statue Bandodkar at Old Secretariat, Panjim at 9 am. 

Pastor Day celebrated at St Jose de Areal

PANJIM: On the occasion of the feast of St Jean Maria Vianney, St Joseph Church, St Jose de Areal celebrated the Pastor Day. The theme of the day was 'Bhavartacho Ekchar Vantun Borea Gonvlleancho Rupkar zata'. Fr Richard Pinhero, parish priest, was the main celebrant at the Eucharistic celebration. In his homily he highlighted the role of the Pastor. The celebration was attended by hundreds of catechism children, parents and catechists. After the Eucharist, a small fellowship was held wherein Fr Richard Pinhero and Fr Jayson Vaz (assistant parish priest) were greeted with the Pastors Day card by the catechism children. 

Mount Mary School organises singing contest

PANJIM: Mount Mary’s Higher Secondary School organised a singing competition, recently. The winners in Konkani category are Aloshia Baptista (first prize), Jollan D’Souza (second) and Creia Dias (thrid). In the Hindi category, the winners are Sohid Angolkar (first), Abdul Nadaf (second) and Noor Ahamed Khan (third). In the English category, the winners are Ciloni da Costa (first), Jollan D’Souza (second) and Creia Dias (third). Agustinho Themudo, Rohan Goes and Ms Wahida were the judges. 

Fishing contest at Cortalim

PANJIM: The Cortalim Villagers Sports and Social Welfare Association will organise a ‘Fishing Contest’ on August 15 from 11 am to 2.30 pm at Manxer, Cortalim, in River Zuari. Fishing line/rod will be supplied to the participants by the organizers and cash prizes will be awarded to the first catch, longest fish, smallest fish and rare fish. Spot entries will be accepted. Healing service at Sancoale

PANJIM: Holy Mass with special prayers for a Miraculous Healing will be held at the Shrine of Blessed Joseph Vaz, Sancoale on Friday August 8. The service will begin at 7.45 am followed by mass at 9 am. The sick will be prayed over for a Miraculous Healing through the intercession of Blessed Joseph Vaz, the Patron of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. Healing Service will end by 11.30 am. Healing Service is conducted on every 2nd Friday of the month. Many people claim to have been healed and their prayers answered at this shrine. Friday Masses are as follows: 7 am and 8.45 am and evening Mass at 4 pm at the House of Blessed Joseph Vaz, followed by Way of the Cross on the Hillock.
