MARGAO: A burglary was reported at Banda-Assolna on Saturday wherein the miscreants are believed to have lifted away household items from a closed house. Velim ZP member Anthony Rodrigues informed the Cuncolim police that a house next door owned by his close relatives was burgled by unknown persons. He said the residents are in Mumbai since the last six months. He pointed that a TV set, three LPG cylinders and cooking gas stove, besides other household items were missing from the house of Jenovie Rodrigues. The incident came to light when a daily wage worker found the lock on the main door missing.
Gopalrao gets State literary award
PANJIM: Kala Academy Goa has declared the Gomant Sharada Puraskar, the highest literary award of the State to Prof Gopalrao Mayekar, litterateur, orator, educationist for his lifetime contribution to the Goan literary field. Dayanand Mandrekar, Chairman of Kala Academy and Minister for Art & Culture along with Prasad Lolayekar, Member Secretary, Dr Dattaguru Amonkar, Programme & Development Officer and Sanjeev Zarmekar, Programme Executive of KA called at Mayenkar’s residence at Mapusa and conveyed the news to him. The award carries a cash purse of Rs 2 lakh, gold plated memento of Gomant Sharada, citation, shawl and shreefal. Prof Mayekar extended his thanks to Kala Academy Goa for the honour.
Greeting card design contest result
PANJIM: The results of the Bal Bhavan-organized all Goa greeting card design contest for Special Children has been declared. In the hearing impaired category, Tasmiya Shaikh came in first followed by Suraj R Shetgaonkar and Babita Kashyap – all from Sanjay Centre for Special Education – Porvorim). In the mentally challenged category, Ambresh Kulkarni of Gujarati Samaj Education Trust Aquem, Margao, Poonam Surya Gaude of Lokvishwas Pratishthans Special School– Dhavli, Ponda and Kashinath Gaonkar of Keshav Seva Sadhana School, Bicholim won the first three prizes respectively. In the slow learners category, the first three prize was bagged respectively by Arsha Rama Bhadran N of Sanjay Centre for Special education-Vasco, Manjeet Mahesh Shirodkar of Sanjay Centre of Special Educaiton-Porvorim and Sheldon Rodrigues of Daddy’s Home School, Gogol, Margao.
Atharv Desai awarded CCRT scholarship
PANJIM: Centre for Cultural resources and training, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, has awarded a CCRT scholarship to Atharv Arun Desai, a student of Bal Bhavan, Panjim, in tabla stream, for the year 2014. PANJIM: The Chairman of Dempo Group of Companies Shrinivas Dempo inaugurated the 12-day national conference on Occupational Safety Health and Environment (OSHE) at Campal. The function was organized by the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers in association with Green Triangle Society, Ministry of Labour GoI. The theme was Improve, Innovate and Implement. Dance contest on Oct 2 in city
PANJIM: The Mushtifund Open School has organized an inter-school and inter-collegiate musical and dance competition on October 2, at Menezes Braganza hall, Panjim. Students will have to perform dance or sing on the theme ‘rain.’ This is first programme organized by the school, with an aim to motivate students. Interested schools and colleges should submit their entries by September 25. Students between 15-22 years are eligible. Audition will be held on September 25 and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.
