PANJIM: Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has decided to go as per the announced schedule of the Class X exam for the current time, despite parents and students having urged the government to postpone the board examination citing the coronavirus scare.

The Board will conduct the Class X examination from May 21 to June 6, while the exams for three remaining papers of Class XII will be held from May 20 to May 22.

Speaking to Herald, Goa Board chairman Ramakrishna Samant said he has not received any representation from parents, students or NGOs requesting that the examination be deferred. “For now we are going to conduct the exams as per the schedule. There is no proposal to reconsider the dates as of now,” he said.

Samant said the Board announced the schedule after seeking required permission from the State government.

Citing the COVID-19 lockdown, several parents have petitioned Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant requesting him to defer the proposed board examination to July or till the time there is a ‘safer environment’ for the children.

The parents, in their representation, have demanded that the government appoint a committee of qualified persons from the fields of medicine/health care and education, to explore and recommend innovative measures like reduction in time of conduct of examination.

Students have also demanded reconsidering the decision to hold the examination this month.
