PANJIM: Two days after a video of BJP MLA Glenn Ticlo partying went viral, the State government decided that no family or outdoor parties will be allowed in the State in the wake of COVID-19. The government also decided to take stern action against those violating the norms of the containment zones.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant chaired a meeting on Wednesday with Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, MLAs Tony Fernandes, Francis Silveira, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, North Collector R Menaka IAS, Tiswadi Deputy Collector, Health Officers and Police Officials from Tiswadi and reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the taluka.

Sawant said that the government is taking all preventive measures to control the spread of virus in Tiswadi. “The meeting has decided for better co-ordination between the MLAs, police and administrative staff besides health staff,” he said, and added, “No parties, be it family or birthday, will be allowed and police will take strict action.”

Weddings will be allowed but the number of people at the event will be restricted to 50.

The Chief Minister, speaking to the media said he has directed the Deputy Collector, Health Officers and Police Inspectors working in the jurisdiction of Tiswadi to work in coordination and adopt a strategy to curtail the spread of the novel Coronavirus in the contaminated areas as well in other parts of the taluka. 

“Panjim is the only constituency in Tiswadi taluka with no cases of Coronavirus reported till date. The government machinery must act wisely in order to retain this status of Panjim and take appropriate measures to control the spread in other parts of the taluka,” the Chief Minister said.

He further assured that reusable and washable PPE kits and other security equipment will be provided to the medical as well as the police staff.

“I have also asked Police to take stern action against those violating the norms of containment zones,” he stated.

The Chief Minister heard grievances put forth by the MLAs and other officials and assured necessary measures at the earliest. 

J Ashok Kumar Secretary to Chief Minister, Sanjay Kumar Secretary, Information and Publicity and Director of Health Services Dr Jose D’Sa were present.
