PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that there is no proposal with the government to regularise Bal Rath staff.

"As on date, there are no such proposals with the Government for regularizing  staff of Bal Rath," Sawant, who also holds Education portfolio replied  to a question tabled in the state assembly which ended on February 10, 2024.

The Chief Minister said that the drivers of Bal Rath are appointed on valid drivers licence and badge, issued by the competent authority and the appointments are made by the concerned school management.

He said 410 Bal Rath buses have been allotted to schools across the state.

The Chief Minister has said that timely guidelines on safety measures are being issued by the Education Department to ensure that incidents like December 7, 2023, does not occur.  It may be recalled that a Bal Rath carrying school students had overturned on December 7, 2023, at Balli resulting in some students getting injured. The injured students were shifted to nearby Balli Health Centre. From there, 22 students were referred to District Hospital, Margao. After preliminary treatment, 16 students were discharged and six were admitted for further treatment.
