No respite as another 333 new cases, 4 fatalities recorded

PANJIM: With four more deaths on Friday, the COVID-19 toll touched 70, and another 333 new cases and 142 recoveries were recorded.

The DHS bulletin said that a 78-year-old man from Vasco, admitted at the ESI COVID hospital at Margao, with co-morbid conditions expired on Thursday, while a 62-year-old man from Mapusa was brought dead on Friday to the North Goa district hospital, Mapusa. A 80-year-old man from Sada, Vasco and 30-year-old man from Cudnem, Bicholim both admitted at Goa Medical College, Bambolim with co-morbid conditions also expired.

The confirmed cases in the State have zoomed to 7947 and active cases are 2282, while 5595 persons have already recovered.

Panjim reported 17 new cases on Friday and the Corporation of City of Panjim and Panjim MLA began hunting for a place for a Covid Care Centre around the city.

Panjim Mayor Uday Madkaikar inspected the old GMC hospital at Ribandar for a COVID care centre. Health Services Director Jose D’Sa, Dr Manish Kamat, MD Smart City and PWD officials were also present.

On Thursday 17 new cases were reported in Panjim, 10 alone in Altinho, around the houses of the youth who had expired two days earlier. Three more cases were reported in Bhatlem, two in Dona Paula and two in Caranzalem. The Altinho area has been sealed and sanitsation is being carried out, Madkaikar said. Three infected in Altinho are students, one who is 12 years old and two below 10, he added.

On Friday, 11 personnel at Old Goa Police station were also reported positive and three were found positive at Valpoi police station.
