PANJIM: The Public Works Department (PWD) claims to have reduced the non revenue water (NRW) to 25 percent through various mechanisms in place.

With an MoU on technical cooperation signed with Portugal, Goa hopes the NRW will further reduce to less than 10 percent.

“Goa government has assured to provide 24x7 water supply to every household which was highlighted in the budget speech. We get 100 inch rainfall that goes into rivers and sea. Something needs to be done to store the surplus water, only then we will achieve our goal. Our NRW was above 40 percent and is now close to 25 percent. To further control NRW, we are taking help of Portugal government. It is difficult but we will try to bring it to less than 1090 percent,” PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavlikar told reporters.

On the change of the pipelines, Minister Joao Pedro De Matos Fernandes said the problem does not lie only with the old pipes but also on its management, and other related issues.
