QUEPEM: In the past 36 hours, heavy rainfall in the Paroda area wreaked havoc once again on the main road connecting Margao and Curchorem.  As a result the road was submerged between 1 pm and 4 pm. This marks the fourth occurrence of such flooding during this monsoon and notably the first time it has happened in the month of September.

Heavy rains also resulted in the death of a driver in a self accident in Medak Sirvoi, Quepem.

As a result of submerging of the Paroda road, commuters heading to Margao, Quepem, Curchorem, and Avedem were severely inconvenienced. During this period, both sides of the road were closed off with barricades under the supervision of the traffic department. Only after 4:30 pm, when the water level receded, did the Paroda main road become passable for smooth traffic flow.

The Curchorem fire brigade reported a total of six distress calls within the last 36 hours. These included two instances of trees falling on the road, one near Vicundre in Sanguem, close to the Ram Mandir Pontemol, and another in Assolda village in Curchorem. Additionally, heavy rains resulted in a tragic single-vehicle accident in Medak Sirvoi, Quepem, last night, resulting in the loss of life for a person originally from Jharkhand, who was killed on the spot.

This unfortunate accident involved an Eco passenger van carrying five individuals. The driver tragically lost his life in the incident. The Curchorem fire brigade in charge, Damodar Zambaualikar, and Quepem police inspector Deepak Pednekar were among those who responded to the incident and provided necessary information to authorities.
