CHINCHINIM: Aggrieved Chinchinim villagers on Friday unanimously resolved that the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) be scrapped and the CZMP prepared by the village panchayat and submitted in 2019 be adopted.

They also demanded that the State government reschedule the public hearing scheduled for the South Goa District at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on March 7, from 10 am to 7 pm and conduct this public hearing at Taluka or village level after the CZMPs are explained at the gram sabha meeting with an expert appointed by the government to explain in detail to the villagers all the technical details of this plan especially as the panchayat elected representatives are not technically qualified to do so.

At the special public meeting summoned by the Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat Sarpanch Inacina Rebello to discuss the draft CZMP, held at the Mount Mary Church hall, the 75-odd participants further demanded that the Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat write to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) regarding their objections to the draft CZMP.

They vociferously demanded that the State government approve the earlier plan prepared by the villagers by taking all the stakeholders into confidence that was submitted by the Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat to the government.

They also questioned why the State government was not approving the earlier plan prepared by the villagers by taking all the stakeholders into confidence that was submitted by the Chinchinim-Deussua village panchayat to the government.

Sarpanch Inacina informed that “the panchayat will oppose the plan as it is not as per the wishes of the villagers.”
