MARGAO: Over 50 kiosks that are operating illegally or have encroached upon government land in Salcete have been issued notices by the PWD, asking them to vacate the premises immediately.

“You are hereby directed to immediately remove the kiosk, and restore the land to its original condition within seven days failing which the office shall be forced to remove the illegal structure without any further notice and intimation,” the notices stated.

The notices have been issued by the PWD, Roads Division-VI against these kiosks that are being operated on government land belonging to the PWD, without any authorisation from the department.

A recent survey was carried out by the PWD as these encroachments are coming in the way of proposed road construction.

As per the notices issued by PWD Executive Engineer Prasad Panandikar, the kiosks and encroachments are causing not only hindrance to smooth parking and movement of vehicles but also encroaching upon government land without any approval.

There are several such encroachments in Margao, Fatorda and at Mungul on the Margao to Colva road.  These also include kiosks operated by vendors of the Horticulture Corporation who have encroached upon the land surrounding the area allotted to them by the Corporation.

Such encroachments and kiosks found alongside the ring road, from Old Market to the railway crossing at Comba are expected to be cleared.
