Govt launches Bharat Bill Payment System for water supply bill payment

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral launched the ‘Bharat Bill Payment System’ (BBPS) in-collaboration with the TJSB Sahakari Bank Limited for water supply bill payment at the PWD head office, Altinho here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sawant said that the government will aim to increase happiness index of the State by providing `Ease of Living’ by bringing maximum services in online mode. He said that instructions have been issued to all the departments to this effect, while 121 various services are available online mode and that nearly 15 lakh people have availed benefits of these online services.

Sawant also clarified that the government has not stopped supplying 16,000 litres of free water and the scheme is still in operation. Nearly 1.30 lakh people are getting 16,000 litres of water at no cost and will continue to receive it in future. He also congratulated Cabral for resolving the issue of free water scheme to those living in apartments, rental houses and other areas.

Cabral said that the Bharat Bill Payment System will provide day-to-day transactions and help the PWD to generate water bills on time. The BBPS system will allow consumers to pay their water supply bills online, saving time, reducing paper work, and improving the department's billing cycle process. The system of paying by cheque and DD will be abolished as done in the electricity bills payment once the BBPS process is fully streamlined, he added.

Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS, PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar and TJSB managing director and CEO Sunil Sathe were also present.

Earlier, TSJB chief general manager Subhalaxmi Shirali welcomed the gathering while, Akshata Bhat compered the function and PWD Chief Engineer Santosh Mhapne proposed the vote of thanks.
