Calangute: Calangute police on Saturday arrested a Odisha native who was found in possession of ganja worth Rs 5.5 lakh.
Calangute PI Dattaguru Sawant said they received information from sources that one person will come to deliver narcotic substance to his prospective customers near Palmarinha Resort, Porbowado, on the Mapusa-Calangute road.
A police team led by PSI Paresh Sinari was formed and successfully conducted a raid during which Bijay Mallick, 26, a native of Gajapati, Odisha, was found in the possession of 5.5 kg of greenish colour leafy substance suspected to be ganja all worth Rs 5,50,000 approximately. The accused person was placed under arrest under the provisions of NDPS Act 1985 and his police custody remand is being obtained to find out the source of the seized narcotic drugs. Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of PI Sawant and DySP Vishwesh Karpe.
