SANGUEM: Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, Deputy Collector Sanguem Ajay Gaude, Chief Engineer Ulhas Kerkar, Executive Engineer Shrikant Gaonkar and other officials visited the affected landslide site at Selaulim Water Treatment Plant to ascertain the damage caused to the water treatment plant and to chalk out plans for immediate reconstruction of new clarifocculator tank.

On Monday morning, a minor landslide took place in the vicinity of the Selaulim Water Treatment Plant causing extreme damage to one of the four clarifocculator tank.

Due to the landslide, the mud beneath the 40 MLD clarifocculator got washed away thereby damaging the clarfocculator.

During the course of site inspection, WRD officials briefed MLA Gaonkar of the plans that needs to be taken for the reconstruction of the clarifocculator and steps that could be taken to prevent further occurrence of landslides in the vicinity of the Water Treatment Plant.

Sources informed that though drinking water supply to South Goa would not be affected as of now, some effects could be caused during summer when demand for drinking water increases.

The officials briefed Gaonkar on the reason for the landslide while simultaneously bringing to his knowledge of the steps being taken by the WRD in getting the reconstruction work done.

As the mud beneath the clarifocculator is washed away, soil testing will also required to be done before any project work is being undertaken to avoid reoccurrence of similar incidents in the near future, sources informed.
