PANJIM: The Director of Panchayat (DoP) has fixed a hearing on Friday, March 4 over the issue of demolition of a structure within the heritage area at Old Goa even as the satyagraha (protest) by the people to demand demolition of the structure completed 100 days on Thursday.     

As the people had gathered under the banner of Save Old Goa Action Committee on the occasion of 100 days of satyagraha they were informed about the hearing before the Director of Panchayat. 

The Old Goa Panchayat had issued demolition order to the owners of the illegal structure. But now the owners is learnt to have filed a petition before the Director of Panchayat.    

It was also informed that the Save Old Goa Action Committee has filed a caveat before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

“We have received a notice for a hearing before Director of Panchayats. But we have not received a copy of builder’s plea as to what grounds he is seeking to scrap the demolition. Save Goa Action Committee will be represented by a lawyer,” said Tahir Noronha of Save Goa Action Committee. 

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party leaders on Thursday joined the citizens’ protest at Old Goa, marking 100 days of the hunger strike against the illegal construction at the Old Goa heritage zone.
