VASCO: The South Western Railway (SWR) authorities have agreed to extend and delay the departure of the Vailankanni-Vasco bound train for the convenience of Goan devotees attending the Our Lady of Vailankanni feast mass on September 8.

Informing this to media persons, Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar on Tuesday said that the SWR authorities have agreed to extend and delay the departure of the train from Vailankanni on the feast day (September 8) as many devotees would attend the masses scheduled at 10 am and at midnight. This will provide a big relief to devotees, who would attend the late masses and return home.

Earlier, the last train was scheduled to leave Vailankanni station at 9 pm and it could have left many devotees stranded there.

Salkar said that from next year efforts will be made to operate additional direct trains from Vasco to Vailankanni solely for the convenience of pilgrims.

According to Salkar, there is a demand from pilgrims visiting Vailankanni to increase the frequency of trains instead of running thrice a week.

He said that plans are afoot to operate direct trains daily from next year and that he would request the railway authorities to consider it.
