PONDA: Ponda Police on Monday arrested a 49-year-old person for allegedly assaulting Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar at his clinic, on Monday.

However, the alleged culprit refuted Bhatikar’s claim.

Speaking to the media persons, Bhatikar said, “The person, claiming to be a political analyst, came to his clinic complaining of pain in his left shoulder. When I was providing treatment, the person suddenly started assaulting me, following which I pushed and dragged him outside the clinic. The locals and staff caught hold of him and later handed over to the police.”

According to Ponda Police Inspector Mohan Gaude, they have taken the custody of one Herold Charles Maben from Mangalore after a complaint was lodged by Bhatikar.

During the police interrogation, the alleged accused revealed that he had come in search of job at Ponda seven days back and had even given an advertisement on English daily offering his service to people on how to save money on the electricity bill. However, Herold did not get any response from the advertisement. Later, he visited Dr Bhatikar’s clinic asking for job and offering his services for planning political strategies in the forthcoming Assembly elections. He claimed that he did not assault Dr Bhatikar.

Ponda Police are conducting further inquiry.
