One arrested for duping job seeking youth

Duped youth says he paid Rs 67,000 to the accused for getting job overseas

MARGAO: Acting on a complaint by 21-year-old Malcolm Xavier, Margao Town Police on Tuesday arrested 45-year-old Arthur Kennedy Lourenco for allegedly cheating people by promising jobs overseas and collecting money. 

According to the complainant, in November 2017, Arthur, who was operating a firm - Rainbow Developers near Vorginkar House at Margao began collecting money from youth by promising jobs overseas even despite not having the necessary licence from Protector of Emigrants of Government of India.

According to Malcolm, he paid Rs 67,000 and he said at least another 50 persons had paid similar amounts to Arthur, who had promised jobs in Canada, United States of America, Singapore, etc. Thus, he had collected lakhs of rupees from people under the pretext of offering them overseas employment.

However, as the jobs were not materializing, a complaint was lodged following which the police arrested Arthur. PSI Sujay Korgaonkar is investigating.
