PANJIM: The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) has taken into custody a tourist from Andhra Pradesh for alleged possession of drugs, estimated at Rs 5.36 lakh. The 27-year-old is identified as Satyanarayana Manukonda.
The alleged drug trafficker was caught red-handed in possession of suspected Hahish oil weighing 536 gms in a raid at his rented room in Siolim.
He has been arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and remanded to police custody for interrogation.
Goa records increasing cases of drug trafficking in the tourist season even as the State police heighten their surveillance in the coastal areas. The new Director General of Goa Police I D Shukla, in his first interaction with the media on Monday, said curbing drug menace in the coastal State is one of his priorities.
