PANJIM: The Mapusa Police on Sunday busted an online gambling racket at Xelpem, Dhuler, Mapusa, and arrested nine persons in connection with the crime.
According to Mapusa Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jivba Dalvi, upon received a tip from the sources, a team of police headed by PI Shitakant Nayak apprehended the accused who were carrying on online gambling activities by using mobile handsets and laptops.
During the raid, five mobile handsets and laptops, all worth Rs 3.5 lakh, were seized from the accused, police said. The accused Pankaj Kumar 22, Anish Giri 19, Rahul Jagatram Thakur 23, Pratik Suresh Baghel 22, Mohammad Ahamd 27, Prakash Sundarlal Mirjha 30 and David Mohanlal Sahu 24, all hailing from Chhattisgarh, Raja Manoj Kumar Bharma 19 from Jharkhand and Binkesh Sitaram Bhimte 30 from Madhya Pradesh were arrested under section 3 and 4 of GDDPG Act has been registered against them.
The police team consisted of PSIs Gaurav Naik, Dineshkumar Mukhiya, Viraj Korgaonkar, Yashwant Mandrekar, Sunil Patil, HC Sushant Chopdekar, constables Rajesh Kandolkar, Akshay Patil, Prakash Polekar and Laxmikant Naik.
